birds : My only observation is from looking at the Swift migration that is in full swing : why do they always seem to be going directly West over my house? Why aren't they heading South?

.

moths : The weather conditions continue to be unhelpful but Saturday night was quite successful in the trap.

.

Cochylimorpha straminea - after only seeing for the first time a month or so ago, it is now on the garden list.

.

Opogona omoscopa - not exactly spectacular but a special moth for me, as I had the first records for the British Isles in 2006 and 2007. It has now occurred in a few other spots in the UK but I haven't had any for the last 2 years, so I was assuming that it had died off - but no.

.

Gypsy Moth - It is probably resident here in small numbers

.

Pyrausta aurata - beautiful colours, often seen flying round garden mint

.

Pempelia genistella

.

Southern Wainscot - easily mistaken for the Smoky Wainscot, but the "monobrow" is a clincher

.

nonsense : Not something we get very often in the garden - this one has visited us twice this week. Can't really see why peoplefind them cute.
